Grand Chamberlain

Brother Ronald Thomas Lloyd R O H, Grand Chamberlain, completed twenty-five years a member of the Order during the past year, having been initiated in the Cynon Lodge 408 of the Merthyr Province on 22nd October 1951. All his four Degrees were taken in this Lodge, second on 24th November 1952,third on 27th February 1956 and fourth on 3rd September 1962. After serving only one year as P G L Officer, he was elected D P G P for 1968and followed this up by holding as the Chief Officer in 1969.

Other local Offices held by him include President of Examining Council in 1966, of R O H Assembly in 1969 and of the Knight’s Chapter in 1970. To complete a great record he was elected as P G Secretary in 1974 almost (but not quite) in succession to the late Brother Tommy Jones one of the best-known figures in Grand Lodge in his day.

He did national service in the R A M C in 1948 to 1050. If he has any time to spare after carrying out his Buffalo duties. It is possible that in summer he may be found on a cricket ground and in the winter on a Rugby ground purely as a spectator of course. In his private life he holds down a job as a Measuring Clerk with the N C B, we haven’t the faintest idea just what this means. To show that Buffaloism really a family trait, it is worth recording that his father was P G P of Merthyr in 1948 and his Brother followed up in the same Office in 1959

Bro Pritchard Sydney Pritchard R O H, Grand Registrar is another Brother who has devoted all his Buffalo career to one lodge; joining the Sir Rees Thomas Lodge 3463 on initiation 19th December 1945 he obtained his Second Degree on 22nd January 1947, his Knighthood on 12th April 1950 and was placed on the Roll of Honour on 5th May 1955. In 1963 he was elected to his first Provincial Grand Lodge Office as P G Alderman of Benevolence and in the following year, 1964 was elected to lead the Merthyr and District Provincial Grand Lodge as their Provincial Grand Primo. 1966 saw him as the President of the Knight's Chapter and 1967 elected as President of the Roll of Assembly and the Examining Council. Finally in 1978 he was elected as one of the Trustees. Outside the Order Brother Pritchard was a regular soldier with the Welsh Guards from 1930-34 and at the out break of hostilities was recalled to the colours  from 1939-46.

In 1976 he retires from the civil services after 40 years with Department of Health and Social Security. It would appear that apart from his many Buff activities, Brother Pritchard is enjoying a well earned retirement as his hobbies and other activities are listed as None.
